The National Centre For Fathering - helping you become a better dad.

"Fathers leave an indelible mark on their children and society. We must encourage, equip, and support dads as they become the true heroes of the coming generation." Ken Canfield, Ph.D., Founder and President National Center for Fathering

The mission of the National Center for Fathering is to improve the well-being of children by inspiring and equipping men to be more effectively involved in the lives of children.. In response to a dramatic trend towards fatherlessness in America, the Center was founded in 1990 by Dr. Ken Canfield to conduct research on fathers and fathering, and to develop practical resources to prepare dads for nearly every fathering situation.

The National Fatherhood Initiative (NFI) was founded in 1994 to lead a society-wide movement to confront the problem of father absence.

NFI's mission is to improve the well-being of children by increasing the proportion of children growing up with involved, responsible, and committed fathers.

NFI works to accomplish this mission through:

  • Educating and inspiring all people, especially fathers, through public awareness campaigns, research, and other resources.
  • Equipping and developing leaders of national, state, and community fatherhood initiatives through curricula, training, and technical assistance.
  • Engaging every sector of society through strategic alliances and partnerships.

Our mission:

  • To promote responsible shared parenting after separation and divorce.
  • To make available information, research and resources to all concerned.

Hiking 4,400-miles across America on behalf fathers and kids without fathers.

William "Spanky" Bateman continues his Hike4kids across America on behalf of fathers and children without fathers.

"It takes more than a community to raise a child, it takes a father and a mother." ~William Bateman, Miami, FL

Today, there are more adoption agencies, foster homes, crisis intervention centers and youth ranches working with fatherless youth than at any time in American history. Mentoring programs of all types abound. Outreach efforts to single-parent families and step-parent families are springing up all over the internet and in our nation's cities and towns and churches. But, something is still missing from all these great efforts... an element called "fathers." This precious commodity called "fathers" is what many young people will spend the rest of their lives saying contributed to their successes or failures in life. Such is the incredibly important role of fathering.

Hike4Kids across America is this father's attempt to let his neighbor know that it is time for dads to become fathers again- before we destroy the very heritage of parenting. Why not give today's youth what they are really searching for... a father's wisdom.

Equal Parenting Council [UK] Logo. Click to go to their website. Equal Parenting Council [UK] (www.equalparenting.org)

Joint Custody and Shared Parenting Information for Children of Divorce and their Parents The Equal Parenting Council advocates shared parenting as the best arrangement for children after their parents divorce or separate, unless a parent is unfit. Children enjoy shared parenting whilst their parents are still married. Why shouldn't this continue after divorce, unless one parent is unfit? If we are truly concerned about putting children's best interests first, there is every reason why shared parenting should continue after their parents divorce or separate.

Kids are devastated by divorce and separation. It is far easier on them when they continue to have parenting time (so called "contact") with both their parents. But sometimes one parent tries to exclude the other parent from their children's lives without justification. Our current legal system is so flawed that it aids and abets these hostile parents in their amoral objective. Instead courts should be upholding the child's right to both parents.

Equal Parenting Council believes that the law should treat both parents equally. This is what we mean by "equal parenting". We are calling upon the Government to introduce a legal presumption whereby all separated parents will have the right to parenting time with their children unless it can be shown (on the basis of credible evidence) that there is some genuine risk to a child's safety. This will enable the excluded parent to require the court to order reasonable parenting time at the first hearing, unless the opposing parent can show good reason why their parenting role should be limited. A good reason must be one that would be valid (for the limiting of the applicant parent's role) even if the parents were still together.

Live Beat Dads UK [UK] Logo. Click to go to their website. Live Beat Dads UK [UK] (www.lbduk.org)

Live Beat Dads is a union of parents that have joined in a common goal to provide support to families who suffer from failed domestic partnerships, separation and divorce. We are determined to fulfill the obligations of raising our children but, for one reason or another, we are excluded or have very limited participation in their lives.

We support gender equality, our feelings are such that Men and Women are equally important in a child’s life. We both play a valid role in the emotional health and well-being of a child. We must abolish the gender-biased views of the legal system before we destroy our children. We come from all lifestyles and share a similar feeling.

Live Beat Dads UK is committed to restoring, improving and preserving childhood through the comfort and natural benefit of the presence and guidance of both birth parents, and the experience of family and kinships thereby empowering our children to achieve their own unique being and destiny.

The Center For Successful Fathering [USA] Logo. Click to go to their website. The Center For Successful Fathering [USA] (s2.cherlo.com/~admin19/index.mht)

The Center for Successful Fathering was founded in 1995 by Dr. Ron Klinger as a response to the growing number of children who were growing up without a father in their lives. Children need a balance of mothers and fathers in their lives. In 1960, over 80% of our nation’s children went to sleep in a home where both the biological mother and father were present. Today that number has dropped to less than 25%.

Dr. Klinger found that children that have active and involved dads are:

  • More successful in school
  • More ambitious
  • More self confident with their respective male or female identities
  • Self-protective and self-reliant
  • Less likely to drop out
  • Less susceptible to peer pressure
  • Less likely to get in trouble with the law

We want the educators who deal with fathers and mothers everyday to use what we have learned about how to get and keep fathers involved with their children.

FATHERS.CO.ZA [South Africa] (www.fathers.co.za)

At fathers.co.za we believe that fatherlessness is one of the most significant family/social problems facing South Africa. Research supports the facts that children from fatherless homes are more likely to be poor, become involved in drug and alcohol abuse, drop out of school, and suffer from health and emotional problems. Boys are more likely to be involved in crime, and girls are more likely to become pregnant as teens. The cost of fatherlessness is high. Unfortunately even when a father is physically present in a home, he may be emotionally absent.

The answer to this great problem is effective fathering.

Fathers.co.za is a non-profit research and education organization whose mission is to champion the role of responsible fatherhood by inspiring and equipping men to be more engaged in the lives of children.

The research information contained here is provided as an extension of our mission. We believe that beyond one’s personal experience, these research findings will provide convincing evidence that restoring responsible fatherhood is a critical priority for our children, families, communities and nation.
