'Dads Time'

Supporting Dads, Supporting Kids

Dads, are you feeling at a loose end? Are you wanting to connect with other dads? Then come and join other dads at a Dads Time get together. Oh yes, if you do have the kids with you make sure you bring them along too.

At Camp Connect, we see one of our most important goals as being a support for dads. We receive numerous phone calls from dads who are in need of some form of social support. It may be that they need someone to talk to, to bounce ideas of, or just to feel as though they have been listened to. They may be feeling lonely or depressed. They may well be lacking an adequate social and support network. Up to now, we have attempted to help these dads by trying to tee them up with other dads in their local areas. This has been rather ad hoc and not as successful as we would have liked.

In a new initiative we have set up a series of 'social get togethers' around Melbourne which are available for dads to meet with other dads, with or without their kids, so as to help fill this void. These are Saturday morning, coffee, chat and play get togethers or simply put Dads Time get togethers.

At this stage we are running these Dads Time get togethers every third Saturday during the school term in a particular region, such as the southern suburbs, eastern suburbs etc. The get togethers take place in venues such as indoor play centres, beach side cafes, parks etc. For venues and dates please click here.

So why should you attend a Dads Time get together?

  • To get support from other dads and to build up your support network
  • To meet other dads and make new friends
  • To get the kids meeting new kids and building up their friendship base
  • You may be feeling lonely
  • You need someone to talk to but of the adult variety.
  • You have the kids but are at a loose end and not sure what you to do with them
  • To give the kids and opportunity to expel some of their energy whilst they play with other kids
  • To do yourself and the kids a favour plus it gets everyone out of the house, away from the x-box and the computer games and being active
  • Just by being there you just might make a big difference to the day that another dad is having.
  • To give your partner some peace and quiet by getting the kids out of the house.
  • Because you see it as an important part of looking after yourself and the kids.
  • Because you can!
We invite all dads in their local area to attend these get togethers whether you have you kids for that morning or not and support this important initiative. At this stage the get togethers will only take place during the state school terms. Depending on the response, this may be extended.

If there isn't a get together scheduled in your part of the city on a particular Saturday, check out the Dads Time Calendar on the website. There will likely be a Dads Time get together taking place in another region which you would most welcome to attend.

Have you got what it takes!

For the Dads Time initiative to grow we are looking for Dads to committ to running Dads Time Gatherings in their local area.
If you are interested in being part of this new initiative contact us at Camp Connect. Whether you live in Melbourne, country Victoria or interstate, please let us know and we will support you in getting it up and running. You will be supporting other dads and at the same time meeting new people and making new friends. You too will make a difference.

Email us at dadstime@campconnect.org.au or phone [03] 9779 6909 to find out what is required and how we can assist you to assist others.
